Thai Massage: No Pain No Gain

Wat Arun:
I don't recall signing
 a waiver for this

Day 4 in Bangkok! We continue to see beautiful sites, including stunning (and interactive!) Wat Arun, which we actually got to clamber up:

Now how do we get down?

The photos don't convey the total sensory experience that makes this place amazing and overwhelming.  Too bad we can't capture it all--the smells ( curry, trash, incense, sewer, pad thai, flowers, diesel fumes, more pad thai), the sounds (chanting monks, roaring engines, tinkling bells, random gongs...did we mention roaring engines?) , the touch (jostling on the boat, wonderful warm breezes, the hot breath of diesel fume from a moped tailpipe on your calf)...you get the picture.

Today we went for a Thai Massage. We weren't sure if it was a good sign that our therapists were actually "stretching" before they started. Ten bucks for a full hour of alarming stretching and coaxing of our limbs into olympian positions, inspiring us to utter all kinds of vowel sounds ("eeee", "oooo"). At one point we're pretty sure they were actually hitting us. But now we're feeling buttery soft and relaxed, ready to see more.

  1. Massage!! Now we know it's really you two, and not your travel stunt-doubles. You look too good in the photos for two people who apparently (owing to indefatigable touring and food sampling) have not slept since leaving Boston.

  2. Next time I'd advise paying the extra $5 for the deep tissue massage. That should entail a small Thai girl "walking" on your back. Now THAT'S a massage!

  3. These are fantastic, you two. We are very jealous. Would you mind posting to the email I actually use though (aloriebp@verizon.net). Rebecca sent this on to me. Keep them coming!
    Love, Alorie
